Paying with a cheque.... whaaaaat?!?!

Last month when Tom and I were visiting with some of his friends in Vermont, one of Tom's friends decided to buy a t-shirt at JC Penney. She opened up her wallet which had her cheque book in it and started writing the cashier a cheque. I don't know about anyone else, but this seemed really foreign to me. I can't imagine going into Zellers or Walmart or any store and trying to pay with a cheque. I'm sure that this is because we have interac here in Canada and they don't in the states. But it's still weird.

They call it de-bit in the states and noone uses it because aliens can track their movement using the cards.

Besides, interac is not the safest way of doing things!

I almost never use my interac card. I either use cash or my credit card. It's only when I have to (because they don't accept credit cards and I don't have enough cash) that I use interac. Canadian bank cards are far too vulnerable to fraud for me to use mine all the time.

I have a checking account, and I can write checks, or I could use my debit card to pay. A debit card looks EXACTLY like a credit card, but it comes out of my bank account, instead of being credit, like with a credit card.
